This is actually one of the biggest frustrations many beginners have with WordPress. There are two different things that people often confuse:
WordPress.com (hosted by Automattic)
WordPress.org (self-hosted on your own hosting)

Why the selected theme doesn't look like the demo
Most themes only provide the design, not the content.
The demo you see usually includes:
Custom pages
Stock images
Menus
Sliders
Widgets
Blog posts
Demo products
Custom settings
When you install the theme, your site is empty, so it won't resemble the demo.
For example:

This is normal.
It depends on your plan.
Some themes include starter content.
Some premium themes allow importing demo layouts.
You have fewer customization options unless you're on higher-tier plans.
In self-hosted WordPress (.org)
Many premium themes let you import the complete demo in one click.
For example:

Bricks
Breakdance templates
You click Import Demo, and your site looks almost exactly like the preview.
Why beginners get disappointed
People think:
"I selected this beautiful theme, why doesn't my website look like that?"
The missing step is usually importing the demo content (if available) or recreating the demo using the page builder.
